Shakespeare Globe Centre New Zealand

Education Banner

SGCNZ is a life skills enhancing organisation and was established in 1991. Part of a network of Shakespeare Globe Centres in Germany, USA, Canada and Shakespeare’s Globe in London, SGCNZ has a strong focus in education for all ages.

SGCNZ Trust promotes, encourages and facilitates the performance, appreciation and study of the works of William Shakespeare and his contemporaries.

Underpinning our whole organisation is the development of life skills through the activities, associated competitions and events which we facilitate. These skills include collaboration, co-operation, compromise, self-presentation, self-confidence, leadership, project-management and time-management.

SGCNZ alumni can be found in all sectors of society, benefiting from these skills which many learnt at an early age. Over the past 18 years, over 75,000 students have participated in SGCNZ’s Festivals. Each year over 5,500 students participate in the Festivals from schools from decile 1 to 10 nationwide.

We believe that the world of Shakespeare is not just reserved for ‘Shakespeare lovers’ but is a world that can offer amazing opportunities and insights to a wide range of people.

Thanks!

With the recession biting, Shakespeare Globe Centre New Zealand is even more grateful to the University of Otago, Creative New Zealand, the Performing Arts Foundation, the Sheilah Winn Trust for the Promotion of the Arts, Wellington City Council and the Museum Hotel for their valued assistance towards our University of Otago Sheilah Winn Shakespeare Festival.

We are also more reliant than ever on private donations. With Payroll Giving now an option, consider having even just $10 or $20 a week from your pay and having it paid directly to SGCNZ – a ‘painless’ way to ultimately give a significant amount. SGCNZ is registered with the Charities Commission, so 1/3 of whatever you give can be claimed back as a tax rebate.
